Acure Organics: More To It Than a Catchy Name

“Acure for your Skin…Acure for the Planet….Acure for a Cure.” This is the vision of Acure Organics.

A Major Award

I shop at Whole Foods and Target regularly but had never encountered this brand. A few weeks ago, a display with the above slogan caught my eye. I thought, “That’s clever!” Turns out the store was raffling Acure items. Intrigued, I entered and won – my grand prize a body wash and a body lotion. I started doing a little research and was amazed about what I learned.

On a Mission

Acure Organics is a family owned and operated company founded by Kristy and Jon Guerra. The company claims to thrive on upholding sustainable principles and the triple bottom line, with a mission to produce healthy, effective skincare, body care, lip care, hair care, and baby care products without toxins. The company website says it uses only high quality, fair trade, natural and certified organic ingredients. All products are food and plant-based, and free from animal testing, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and artificial colors. The Guerras claim to travel the globe for the purest and most effective certified organic ingredients.

My Prized Products

I won the Argan Cell Stimulating Body Wash and the Firming Body Lotion.

Both the wash and lotion claim to increase dermal collagen, resulting in skin tightening. I can’t comment on this because I’ve only been using these products for a short time. However, even if they provide some improvement, I don’t expect to observe dramatic cellulite reduction or tightening from a body wash or lotion. What I do value in such topicals are smell, hydration, cleansing ability, ingredients, and cost.

This particular wash’s scent is fresh and inviting with a deliciously sweet almond odor. It’s not overpowering. I actually look forward to opening the cap and taking a whiff every time I use it. Some users dislike its sweetness, but I find it to be a selling point. In addition, the wash has a winning feel as it foams and lathers beautifully, leaving no residue. And it works in that it lifts grime and it makes my skin feel moist and soft; a big thanks to argan oil.

The firming body lotion smells lovely, as well. It has a more herbal scent with a hint of lemongrass. Like its counterpart, it has a lightweight, and, dare I say, calming odor that I really enjoy. The argan-oil based lotion is lightweight, as well, and spreads easily. It, too, leaves my skin feeling well-hydrated and baby soft.

Ingredient List

Acure claims that “rebuilding and protecting collagen is key to anti-aging.” To accomplish this, Acure products feature unique ingredients, namely chlorella growth factor (CGF) and a curoxidant blend.  What are these?

A single-cell algae that helps to protect our DNA and RNA during the replication process. CGF is also clinically proven to protect collagen and elastin fibers from the enzymes that destroy them.

Acure claims that “clinical studies have shown CGF to increase collagen expression by 333% when used at 1% concentration. Our anti-aging products use our CGF at an amazing 5% concentration.”

A combination of  five antioxidant “superfruit” and herbs that helps to neutralize free radicals and reverse the signs of aging. Used in every product.

The Verdictimageimage

You do pay extra for chemical-free, fair trade organic ingredients. Both of my prizes cost $9.99 for 8 fl. oz., that’s more than a dollar per ounce. But that added cost may be worthwhile, given the company’s stated principles. Maybe more importantly, my initial take is that the products are excellent. The one serious downside is that eight ounces doesn’t stretch far; Acure should consult with Costco.

If you have heard about or tried any of Acure’s products, please leave a comment. I’m curious to know what others think, beyond the dozen or so product reviewers on Acure’s website. I’m contemplating trying Acure’s certified organic Moroccan argan oil for my face once my current argan oil runs out.
